A. There is not a significant difference in academic performance between charters and public schools overall. Average DCCAS reading proficency rate for public schools is 47% and for math, 46%. The average DCCAS reading proficiency rate for charters is 47% and for math 43%.

In ward 7 and ward 8, however, charter schools have, on average, proficiency levels 10 to 20% higher than public schools.
